The current city of Arad is one of the most important historical monuments existing today in the west of the country.
Raised in the second half of the XVII century, the fortress was regarded as one of the most impressive military fortification that time. In the following lines we will try to show the motivation of building this impressive edifice.
With the conclusion of the Austro-Turkish wars in the first half of the century alXVIII century after the occupation of Transylvania, the Banat and other territories by the Habsburg Empire, it was envisaged the construction of military fortifications, in the then barely employed to ensure the dominance in these areas.
